Distinguishing Hallmarks of Texas A&M University

Texas A&M University is a unique institution in the higher education landscape, recognized in many different ways for its combination of excellence, affordability, and ability to develop leaders of character who have an impact on the state, nation, and world. It combines the principles of practical education and outreach that are legacies of its land, sea, and space grant designations with the advanced research mission characteristic of membership in the Association of American Universities (AAU). Some of those distinguishing hallmarks include:

  • First public university in Texas and one of only two flagship universities in Texas
  • One of only a few universities in the country to be designated a land grant, sea grant, and space grant university
  • A member of the Association of American Universities since 2001
  • The largest student body in the Nation, according to the 2021 U.S. News and World Report. The Fall 2020 enrollment reached a total of 71,109 students (Preliminary number as of Sept, 2020).
